Your pond is healthy, running great and then all of a sudden you notice a problem! These tips will help eliminate those problems before it’s too late by being proactive and keeping an eye on your pond.
Check the Skimmer Basket
Be sure to check your skimmer basket for leaves and debris and the occasional fish. Debris can cause your pump to work harder than necessary which shortens its lifespan. Fish do swim into the skimmer basket sometimes but remember carp are originally river fish so a little current should not be a problem. If you are having issues with fish swimming into the skimmer, check out this post Why Are My fish Swimming Into my Skimmer?
Check the Auto Doser (if applicable)
The Automatic Dosing System for your Aquascape pond does have bags that need to be changed out monthly. Keep an eye on the bag so that you can order another before it runs out.
Check the waterfall flow
If you have waterfalls, keep an eye on the flow of water coming out of the bio falls and waterfalls. If it slows down significantly, something has gotten past the skimmer basket and filters and is clogging up your pump.
Check the edges of the pond
The ground can settle around a pond over time. This causes low edges and possibly leaks. Plant roots around the pond can go over liner and draw water from the pond. This is the first thing we check for when preforming leak detection and what we ask you to do first.
