Rainwater Harvesting with your Water Feature

Did you know that 70% of water consumption in a home is outside? Sounds made up, but then again–Running a sprinkler for 2 hours can use up to 500 gallons of water! Furthermore, did you also know that 1″ of rain on a 2,000 square foot roof equals 1,250 gallons of water?

Think of all of that untapped potential running down the gutter and overloading your city’s sewer system.

Rainwater harvesting is not a new idea. It has been around for a while and done successfully if I may add. Rain water is collected in a big barrel of sorts and then hooked usually to a hose or irrigation system to be used to water the landscape, etc.

However, rainwater harvesting has come so far! You can even have a beautiful water feature as well! It no longer require hiding ugly bulky systems that take up valuable space in your yard.

Harvesting rain water can also be an enjoyable part of your yard and even add value to your home.

We create rainwater harvesting systems using underground basins to collect the water, already eliminating unsightly equipment. By harvesting water underground, it frees up space in your yard to create a beautiful water feature that can be run solely by your harvesting system. Even better, rainwater can can be collected through the overflow of your existing water feature, using a “water” garden that fills when it rains or collected through your guttering system. It can be used to irrigate your lawn, garden and for other grey water uses.

Bottom line, you add a new space to your home that can add value and an outdoor living area to utilize more of your yard. Furthermore, you are helping the planet and your local neighbors. You can even get LEED credits for this project. If you’d like to know more, watch this video about Rainwater Harvesting:
